Pollination and Plant Reproductive Success of Two Ploidy Levels in Red Clover (Trifolium pratense L.)

چکیده
Plant reproduction in red clover requires cross-fertilization via insect pollination. However, the influences of visitation rate and timing on maximizing ovule utilization are yet to be determined. We aimed study rate, flowering stage, self-incompatibility reproductive success. applied hand honey bee pollination eight cultivars with two ploidy levels released between 1964 2001. In pollination, increasing rates (from 10 80 pollinated florets per flower head) increased seed number head but reduced floret. Different stages (early, middle, full flowering) did not influence floret significantly. There was a marked difference success depending level, 0.52 seeds diploid 0.16 tetraploid cultivars. During cultivar release history, seemed decrease cultivars, whereas it tetraploids. had more two-seeded than stochastic nature pollen transfer resulted difficulties when plant compared. A maximum 0.27 were produced compared 0.34 spite this, provided valuable method for studying biology clover. Future studies may employ unravel further aspects low future perspective improving

Red Clover (Trifolium pratense)
Brief Background: Red clover is a legume, which like soy contains "phytoestrogens" (plant-based compounds structurally similar to estradiol, capable of binding to estrogen receptors as an agonist or antagonist). Red clover was traditionally used to treat asthma, pertussis, cancer, and gout. In modern times, isoflavone extracts of red clover are most often used to treat menopausal symptoms, as a...

Genetic modification of plants by the insertion of transgenes can be a powerful experimental approach to answer basic questions about gene product function. This technology can also be used to make improved crop varieties for use in the field. To apply this powerful tool to red clover, an important forage legume, a population of red clover with a high potential for regeneration in tissue cultur...
متن کاملIsoflavone content in red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) as related to nitrogen and phosphorus application rate
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) as a dietary supplement is currently used to treat menopausal symptoms because of its high concentrations of mildly estrogenic isoflavone. The application rate of N and P fertilizer has a huge influence on the isoflavone content (IC) in red clover. Trifolium pratense ‘Minshan’ is a unique plant resource in the alpine pasture region of northwest China. It plays...

Trifolium spp. are native plants in Iran exhibiting good ground cover po-tential. Salinity is a major environmental stress and today, 20% of the world cultivated areas and nearly half of all irrigated lands are affected by salinity. The main aim of this research was to study morphological and physiological adaptations of these native species under different salinity levels for urban landscape u...
